Experience and education

Ryan leads business development initiatives and cultivates trusted client relationships across diverse industries. He partners with clients to design tailored risk advisory and insurance strategies that seek to protect and strengthen their businesses. In his role, he also focuses on proactive engagement and strategic growth to deliver measurable value and sustained client success.

Prior to joining Mariner, Ryan was executive vice president of business development at Cowell Insurance Services, a regional insurance agency in Overland Park, Kansas, that was acquired by Mariner. While there, he led the firm’s growth strategy and client development initiatives. He worked across commercial and personal lines, collaborating closely with clients, carrier partners, underwriting teams and advisors to design thoughtful coverage strategies rather than transactional policies. He also focused on identifying exposure gaps, structuring proper limits and aligning insurance programs with a client’s financial reality. Before that, he was senior vice president of defense at Incora, where he led a global sales organization supporting aerospace and defense manufacturers for 15 years. While there, he delivered integrated supply chain solutions across critical platforms, including the B-21 Raider, F-35 and multiple satellite systems.

Ryan holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Missouri–Kansas City.

Personal interests

Away from the office, Ryan enjoys spending time with his wife, traveling and playing golf. He is on the board of the American Red Cross Greater Kansas City and is passionate about donating blood and promoting blood drives. He also helps host blood drives in several cities, including Kansas City, Omaha, St. Louis, Salt Lake City and Phoenix.
