Lance Cowell

Experience and education

Lance focuses on new business development and strategic client relationships while seeking to help clients navigate complex risk environments with confidence. He advises clients on customized insurance solutions aligned to their operational and growth objectives. In his role, he also drives long-term partnership development through a relationship-first approach.

Prior to joining Mariner, Lance was president at Cowell Insurance Services, a regional insurance agency in Overland Park, Kansas, that was acquired by Mariner. While there, he led efforts to develop and deliver specialized property, liability and worker’s compensation solutions tailored for associations and affinity groups across industries such as health care, transportation, municipalities, cities, towns and countries. He has several years of experience in the industry and collaborated with a dedicated team to address complex insurance and risk management needs. Before that, he was executive vice president at Alternative Risk Services, LLC, focused on client services, program design and management, risk management consulting and coordination of claims and loss control services.

Lance holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial relations, human resources from the University of Iowa.

Personal interests

Away from the office, Lance is engaged with his community through his involvements with Sheffield Place, St. Jude’s Hospital and the University of Iowa Hospitals. He has a passion for sports and enjoys supporting the Iowa Hawkeyes, Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals. He also enjoys golfing and deep-sea fishing.
