Experience and education

John is responsible for the oversight and management of institutional client relationships, striving to exceed client expectations by delivering excellent service through developing investment policy guidelines, guidance on portfolio construction, assisting with investment manager selection, presenting performance-monitoring reports and conducting trustee education on a wide range of investment topics. He helps to ensure institutional clients receive accurate documentation and reports on their timeline, maintaining current knowledge of each client’s manager lineup and general market issues. He also acts as the primary point of contact in relation to all servicing issues related to institutional client accounts and plans and is required to be proactive in communication regarding portfolios, firm and plan issues as they arise. John may leverage Mariner’s colleagues as required in order to meet the varying needs of institutional clients.

Prior to joining Mariner, John was a portfolio manager at Eagle Asset Management, where he was responsible for developing investment portfolio strategy, assisting with asset-liability strategy and liquidity management for depository institutions. Before that, he was senior vice president of institutional fixed income sales at Hilltop Securities. While there, he provided strategic investment portfolio solutions to institutional clients and developed and executed customized investment strategies to enhance the overall balance sheet and ALM position of depository institution partners.

John holds a bachelor’s degree in physics and an MBA with a focus in finance, both from Millsaps College.

Personal interests

Away from the office, John enjoys college soccer and has coached for over 20 years. He also enjoys fishing, golf and spending time his wife Sally and three kids, Clark, Hays and Gracen.
