Javier Obando

Experience and Education

Javier is responsible for the oversight and management of client relationships. He strives to exceed client expectations and deliver excellent service through developing investment policy guidelines, optimizing investment portfolios, selecting investment managers, presenting performance-monitoring reports and conducting trustee education on a wide range of investment topics. He also helps to ensure clients receive accurate documentation and reports on their timeline, maintaining current knowledge of each client’s manager lineup and general market issues.

Prior to joining Mariner, Javier served as a director and retirement plan consultant, managing plans in the government and non-profit sectors. He also worked as a regional vice president, focusing on business development across government, non-profit and corporate retirement markets.

Javier holds a bachelor’s degree in business from California Polytechnic University, Pomona.

Personal Interests

Away from the office, Javier is actively involved in charity events and enjoys swimming, cycling, traveling and watching live music with his wife and their three kids.
