James holds Qualified 401(k) Administrator (QKA) and Qualified Plan Financial Consultant (QPFC) designations.
Experience and education
James is responsible for the oversight and management of client relationships, striving to exceed client expectations by delivering excellent service through developing investment policy guidelines, optimizing investment portfolios, selecting investment managers, presenting performance-monitoring reports and conducting trustee education on a wide range of investment topics. He also helps to ensure clients receive accurate documentation and reports on their timeline, maintaining current knowledge of each client’s manager lineup and general market issues. James acts as the primary point of contact in relation to all servicing issues related to the client and is required to be proactive in communication regarding portfolios, firm and plan issues as they arise. He may also leverage Mariner’s colleagues as required in order to meet the clients’ varying needs.
James has more than 17 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining Mariner, James was a retirement plan consultant at Two West Advisors. Prior to Two West Advisors, he worked for a third-party administrator where he gained knowledge on the inner workings of a retirement plan, including the impact of plan design, payroll contribution processing, participant enrollments, retirement plan conversions and participant distributions processing.
James has a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in business administration and management from University of Phoenix.
Personal interests
Away from the office, James loves supporting the Kansas City Royals, Chiefs, Sporting KC and the Mavericks. In his free time, he enjoys playing billiards and going to Orangetheory Fitness (OTF).
