Experience and Education
Upon joining Mariner Wealth Advisors, Mike was instrumental in helping the firm acquire the national CBIZ Wealth Management division in late 2010. Mike had been with CBIZ Wealth Management for 22 years as a vice president and managing director. In 1997, CBIZ acquired Robert D. O’Byrne and Associates, where Mike was a shareholder and co-director of Retirement and Wealth Management Services.
Prior to joining CBIZ / Robert D. O’Byrne, Mike was the owner and president of Pension Administration and Design, Inc. Mike started his career working as an auditor and tax accountant in the Los Angeles and Denver offices of Ernst & Young.
Mike has a bachelor’s degree from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.
Mike has been named a Five Star Wealth Manager Award Winner by KC Magazine, KC Business and 435 Magazine from 2013 to 2019.
Mike has been very active in his community’s charitable and civic organizations throughout his career. He has been a national board member of the Society of Financial Service Professionals and also served as Kansas City Chapter president. Mike has also been the treasurer and member of the Board of Trustees of Notre Dame de Sion Schools, president of the Board of Redemptorist Social Services Center and a sponsor of the St. Patrick’s Senior Ball. He and his wife have been married for 37 years and he is a proud father of three daughters. He is also a Kansas City Chiefs season ticket holder.
The Five Star Wealth Manager award is given by Five Star Professional. To receive the award, a wealth manager must satisfy 10 objective eligibility and evaluation criteria, including registration as an investment advisory representative, employment as a credentialed professional in the financial services industry for a minimum of five years, favorable regulatory and compliant history, firm review based on internal firm standards and accepting new clients.
