Adam Kuhlmann
Experience and education
Adam brings a unique combination of institutional portfolio management experience and multi-generational wealth oversight to his clients at Mariner. His approach aligns with the firm’s holistic philosophy, integrating financial planning, investment management, tax strategy, estate planning and family office services to help clients grow, protect and preserve their wealth. With two decades of experience, Adam has led investment teams overseeing substantial assets across global equities, fixed income, private markets and alternative investments. He applies a disciplined, outcomes-focused approach to portfolio construction and risk management, with an emphasis on long-term security and lasting client success.
Prior to joining Mariner, Adam built an extensive career in institutional asset management. He served as a managing director and portfolio manager at Nuveen Asset Management, where he led teams managing international and global small-cap strategies and provided insights on global markets. Before that, he held a similar role at Winslow Capital Management, overseeing international and global equity strategies and contributing to the firm’s ESG investment processes. Earlier in his career, Adam worked at Arbor Capital Management and WHV Investment Management, managing institutional investment strategies in international and emerging markets and contributing to investment research and publications.
Adam has a bachelor’s degree in finance, financial markets and psychology from the University of Minnesota Duluth.
Personal interests
Away from the office, Adam enjoys an active, outdoor lifestyle and spending time on the water with family and friends. He is deeply engaged in his community, serving for more than 17 years as a board member and chairman of the investment committee for the Laird Norton Family Foundation and currently serves on the football board for Prior Lake Athletics for Youth as a player development director and coach.
