POLICY OVERVIEW
AI in our hiring process. Transparent by design.
Mariner is committed to two-way accountability; we’ll be clear about how we use AI, and we ask the same of you.
GUIDING PRINCIPLES
Five commitments that shape this policy.
01 Authentic skills over AI-generated substitutes.
02AI for preparation and refinement, not fabrication.
03Mutual transparency—we disclose; we ask the same.
04Preparation is encouraged. Live performance is yours alone.
05Human judgment drives every hiring decision.
FOR CANDIDATES
Permitted and prohibited use.
Permitted Use
Researching Mariner: our mission, products and publicly available materials.
Refining application materials, provided you authored the initial draft and the content accurately reflects your own qualifications and experience.
Practicing interview responses, generating study guides and preparing for interviews.
Any use expressly authorized by Mariner in writing for a specific stage or assessment.
Prohibited Use
Generating fabricated experiences, qualifications or accomplishments you have not actually had.
Submitting AI-generated content as your own original work on take-home assessments without express permission.
Using AI to generate or supplement real-time responses during live interviews, phone screens or video calls.
Plagiarism or misrepresentation of job-related skills, qualifications or experience.
Any use intended to deceive Mariner regarding your true abilities or experience.
Candidates are expected to be transparent about AI use. Undisclosed use outside these parameters may result in disqualification. Mariner may also contact references to verify key qualifications.
STAGE-BY-STAGE GUIDELINES
How these rules apply across the process.
01
APPLICATION MATERIALS
AI may refine; it may not invent.
Use AI to polish how you communicate real work and experience. Misrepresented qualifications—AI-assisted or otherwise—may lead to disqualification.
02
TAKE-HOME ASSESSMENTS
We’ll tell you when AI is welcome.
Mariner will explicitly state when AI is permitted (e.g., “You may use AI for this coding challenge”). Unless indicated, submitted work must reflect your original conclusions and work product.
03
INTERVIEW PREPARATION
Use every tool available.
AI is actively encouraged for researching Mariner, practicing responses, generating study guides, preparing thoughtful questions and reviewing relevant technical or behavioral topics.
04
LIVE INTERVIEWS
Real time means real you.
Do not read from or reference AI-produced answers during any live interview. Mariner evaluates interpersonal and collaborative skills in real time. Exceptions require prior written authorization.
05
LIVE ASSESSMENTS
Same rule as live interviews.
Do not use AI tools unless Mariner expressly indicates otherwise. Some assessments are designed to simulate AI-inclusive workflows. We’ll tell you when that’s the case.
06
ACCOMMODATIONS
Notify your recruiter early.
Mariner provides reasonable accommodations to applicants throughout the hiring process. Applicants who need an accommodation, including the use of AI-based assistive tools, should contact their recruiter as early as possible. Mariner evaluates accommodation requests on an individualized basis and will work with applicants to determine an appropriate accommodation.
HOW MARINER USES AI
Transparency runs both ways.
CONTENT CREATION
AI assists in drafting job descriptions, interview questions, candidate communications and analyzing hiring metrics. Human review is applied to every final output.
TRANSCRIPTION & SUMMARIZATION
With consent, interviews may be transcribed and summarized, reducing reliance on note-taking and mitigating bias from incomplete documentation.
DATA USE
Mariner does not use candidate data to train Al models. All information is handled per our Privacy Policy and applicable data protection law.
CANDIDATE SOURCING
AI tools may help identify and source candidates for open positions. Human judgment drives every decision that follows.
NO AUTOMATED HIRING DECISIONS
AI is never the sole or determinative factor in advancing, rejecting or extending an offer. Human beings are involved at every step.
NON-COMPLIANCE
Consequences of policy violations.
Unauthorized use of AI tools, plagiarism, misrepresentation, or other violations of this policy are prohibited. All suspected violations will be reviewed based on the specific facts and circumstances involved. Depending on the nature and severity of the violation, Mariner may take appropriate action, which may include requiring the applicant to complete portions of the application or assessment process again, discontinuing consideration for employment, rescinding an offer of employment, or other appropriate action deemed appropriate by Mariner.
