Experience and Education

Derrick assists clients with tax compliance, controversy, planning and various areas of income tax. He focuses on helping ultra-high-net-worth individuals and closely held business groups with trust taxes and estate planning. He also has experience in real estate, investment partnerships, professional services and distribution/retail operations.

Prior to joining Mariner, Derrick worked independently with clients, public accounting firms and corporations on various income tax issues. He also assisted with federal, state and international tax-related matters. Earlier in his career, he was a tax manager at LRC & Associates, PLLC, where he reviewed corporate, fiduciary, individual and partnership tax returns with an emphasis on high-net-worth clients.

Derrick holds a BBA degree in accounting and an MBA in accounting, both from Lamar University. He also has a Master of Jurisprudence in international taxation from Texas A&M University School of Law.

Personal Interests

Away from the office, Derrick enjoys volunteering and working with animal rescues in the community. He is an avid fan of Formula 1, his favorite team being Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1, and likes competing in online Formula 1 racing competitions. His favorite hobbies include reading, automotive and computer building, and traveling.
