J.R. is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional and holds Florida life, health and variable annuity insurance licenses.
Experience and Education
J.R. advises clients through all stages of their lives, providing wealth management solutions including investment management, estate planning, tax planning and retirement forecasting. He also works with corporate executives on advanced estate planning strategies to maximize equity compensation while managing risk and tax implications.
Prior to joining Mariner, J.R. was a wealth advisor/strategist with Truist. In this role, he helped clients navigate the complexities of a changing economy and their business succession. He also provided business legacy, financial and estate planning.
J.R. has a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in international affairs, both from Florida State University. He also gives back to the profession by teaching the estate planning course required for new CFP applicants through FSU and is a presenter for FSU’s global business seminar.
Personal Interests
Away from the office, J.R. serves as a board member for Elder Care Services Inc. (Meals on Wheels); as vice president for the Tallahassee Regional Estate Planning Council of the Community Foundation of North Florida and is a member of the economic club of Florida. He also served on the vestry at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Tallahassee and taught the global philanthropy program to high school youth. He is an active volunteer with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra and supports student musicians as a board member of the Florida State University Music Associates.
Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Center for Financial Planning, Inc. owns and licenses the certification marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER®, and CFP® (with plaque design) in the United States to Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc., which authorizes individuals who successfully complete the organization’s initial and ongoing certification requirements to use the certification marks.
