Matt Lovejoy
Experience and Education
As a National Managing Director and Head of Advisor Attraction at Mariner, Matt leads the team responsible for accelerating the growth of the company’s advisor base, with the goal of expanding to 5,000 professionals. This growth is driven through both organic strategies such as recruiting, alliances and referral partnerships, along with inorganic drivers including strategic acquisitions.
With a focus on advisor success, Matt partners closely with teams across the organization to ensure seamless transitions and access to resources that empower advisors to grow and sustain high-impact practices. His leadership extends to educating stakeholders about the cultural differentiators that set Mariner apart—emphasizing service, flexibility, and values-driven collaboration.
A core part of his role involves collaborating with partners across the country, offering expertise on Mariner’s multiple affiliation models, including Mariner Wealth and Mariner Independent. Through these engagements, he fosters clarity and confidence in model selection, helping advisors align their long-term goals with the most effective framework for success.
Prior to joining Mariner, Matt was instrumental in the expansion of AdvicePeriod—a firm acquired by Mariner in 2021—where he held a series of leadership positions, culminating in his stewardship of the AdvicePeriod for Advisors platform. In this capacity, he and his team supported advisor transitions and operational optimization, helping firms unlock growth and deepen client value.
Matt earned both a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in leadership and instruction from the University of Virginia, where he was also a standout athlete. He competed on the varsity lacrosse team, winning an NCAA National Championship and earning All-American honors, later advancing to the professional level before transitioning into the wealth management industry.
