Martin C. Bicknell, Chief Executive Officer

Marty Bicknell is the chief executive officer of Mariner Holdings, the parent company of Mariner Wealth Advisors and Montage Investments. He serves on the board of directors for all of Mariner Holdings’ subsidiaries including Ascent Investment Partners, Cohen Financial, Convergence Investment Partners, 440 Investment Group, Mariner Real Estate Management, Nuance Investments, Palmer Square Capital Management and Tortoise Capital Advisors.

Prior to forming the firm in 2006, Marty was a senior vice president of investments at A.G. Edwards & Sons, where he led a staff of professional financial consultants in providing customized wealth management solutions for public and private corporations, high-net-worth individuals and their families, and charitable organizations. Marty has provided counseling on a wide range of financial matters to small- and medium-sized businesses.

As a recognized leader in the field of financial problem-solving for companies and their executives, Marty has been a valuable resource for other successful entrepreneurs. He has extensive personal and professional experience in the realm of closely held family businesses and the complexities that are unique to these businesses. From strategic planning for long-term goals, to succession planning and wealth transfer, he brings with him a breadth of knowledge that encourages creative thought and visionary solutions.

Marty has a bachelor’s degree from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas. He serves on the board of directors for the Catholic Foundation of Northeast Kansas, on the KU Advancement Board for the University of Kansas Medical Center and on the MRIGlobal Board of Trustees. He is a member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) and is a board member for the Civic Council of Greater Kansas City. He is also involved in supporting several organizations through his sponsorship and committee participation, including Marillac, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and KU Med Cancer Care.

He has been named a Top Ten Independent Wealth Advisor nationally by Barron’s for two years in a row – ranked number two in 2010 and number six in 2011. Barron’s also ranked Marty as the number one Independent Financial Advisor in the state of Kansas for three years running (2009, 2010 and 2011).

Gary P. Henson, CFA, CFP®, Chief Investment Officer

Gary Henson serves as president of Mariner Holdings and is the chief investment officer of Mariner Wealth Advisors. Gary is responsible for strategic and tactical development and is instrumental in lift outs and acquisitions. He also chairs the asset allocation and risk management committees. Gary has more than 20 years of industry experience and has managed equity, derivative and fixed income portfolios for banks, insurance companies, tax-exempt funds and high-net-worth individuals. He has also served as a consultant for the Kansas State University Foundation.

Gary holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. He is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a member of the Kansas City Society of Financial Analysts.

Timothy M. Connealy, Chief Financial Officer / Chief Operations Officer

Timothy Connealy is the chief financial officer and chief operating officer at Mariner Holdings. He has more than 30 years of experience in banking and accounting.

Prior to joining Mariner, Tim was most recently the executive vice president and chief operating officer at Dickinson Financial Corporation/Bank Midwest. In that role, he was responsible for the operational, administrative and risk management activities for the multi-bank holding company. Tim has also served as executive vice president and chief financial officer with CNB Financial Corporation/Commercial National Bank and UMB Financial Corporation/UMB Bank. Earlier in his career, Tim spent 10 years in the auditing department of KPMG, Certified Public Accountants.

Tim has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri. He is a Certified Public Accountant.

Cheryl Vohland, Chief of Staff / Chief Compliance Officer

Cheryl Vohland is the chief of staff and chief compliance officer at Mariner Holdings. In her role as chief of staff, Cheryl created and now operates a reporting system that allows for the timely flow of necessary data to the chief executive officer from all relevant departments and direct reports. Cheryl also tracks strategic initiatives by monitoring progress toward meeting goals and achieving benchmarks, analyzing data, ensuring follow-through on the part of key players, and sustaining the momentum needed to drive corporate initiatives. As the chief compliance officer, she is responsible for developing and maintaining the compliance program for the investment advisory firms controlled by Mariner Holdings as well as keeping abreast of the rules and regulations surrounding investment advisors.

Cheryl has worked alongside the chief executive officer since before the firm was founded.

Cheryl has a bachelor’s degree in finance from Arizona State University and a juris doctorate from the University of Kansas School of Law. She also has an LL.M. in taxation from the University of San Diego.
